You can see what version of iPod device you have by the firmware: FIRMWARE PREFIX:iPod:iPod 1st Gen = iPod 1,1 iPod 2nd Gen = iPod 1,2 iPhoneiPhone 1st Gen (2G) = iPhone 1,1 iPhone 2nd Gen (3G) = iPhone 1,2 iPhone 3rd Gen (3Gs) = iPhone 2,1 etc ... The model number on the back of the device corresponds to what country you bought the phone in ... the colour ... capacity, etc ... there are quite a few different model numbers for say the iPhone alone ... Also there maybe a model number on the back of the devices ... I have a 1st Gen iPhone and so the model# is iPhone 1,1 ... on the back it also says Model A1203 ...
