Thanks guys. After a trip to my local PC shop I realsied that this mother board will not just fit any new case. Different screw mounting hole positions and sockets etc are not in the same place...

I decided to change the faulty cap and there was only one. A 3300mic 6.5 volt. Dusted it out and reassembled and it has been working perfectly for the past hour..........

So looks like job done.....

Two months later and I was not best pleased when this same PC decided to reset itself tonight.....

Out with the power supply and no fault found.
Check the mother board and no faults there either.

Hmmmm, a quick look of the seperate Geforce graphics card showed one 1500mic open with the top bulged and I found a 1000mic with very high ESR.

Both changed and all working again. :pleased:

Yep caps that blow their top on the mother or other boards sometimes mean the Vcc to various IC's is a wee bit to low or badly filtered and the logic does odd things.

And always keep a check on all fans with a periodic cleaning and lots fail and then supplies fall over.
You're on about geforce graphics, I sat for around a month hearing after hearing a pop and finding nothing after thorough search so carried on and around a week later another pop again nothing stood out until another and graphics started to judder etc, so then out came the card and sure enough 3 smd electrolytics had popped.I managed to replace with radials as there was enough space and worked fine.
There are lots of reports of these cards failing with caps, another manufacturing problem with underspec components.

Yes, these were both 6.3 volts and we get a lot of that voltage failing in all sorts of equipment.
