That Maplin one is just like what I had a a kid, only mine was one of the Tandy experimenter kits.

Am I the only one that built the Ladybird transistor radio. Built on a piece of wood using screws and screw cups to form each junction?
Another memory as a boy (off topic) was I used to build circuits on veroboard (at least before I discovered ferric chloride, etch resist pens and started making my own pcb's) Well I recall a rival to veroboard being sold, called "Blob Board" The crucial difference was blob board didn't have holes drilled in it, so you soldered the components to the track side of the board.
I recall thinking, what a crazy idea soldering the components to the track side of the board, that will never catch on surely.
