Below is the new Sat meter for Sky's installers.
Nice unit with mpeg graphs and analyser. It is the Sky Master 2 series
http://www.roverinstruments.com/uk/stru ... MASTERSAT2

A bit ott though in my opinion.

Hi all, that's not a new meter it's been around for a while and it's not the best in the range. I have an ST4 discovery which is like that but with a LCD television display as well as the basic screen, it is very good for tracing signal problems but not so good for on the fly alignment of satellite dishes. For that I would recommend using the latest horizon meter which is fantastic for the price. tag of around £350.00 it is fast, accurate and has spectrum display as well as a logging feature. which incidentally the Roversat also has. ST4 is about £2000.00 new but you can find them on ebay at around £1000 second hand. There is also an HD DVBS2 version at about £3000,00 which is what I will replace the ST4 with eventually. That has a 3D spectral display which can be handy if you are looking for signal faults on systems it's not the best tool for installers who need somthing that sees the satellite signal fast when moving the dish around. I would not personally recommend the meter shown. I am an expert of many years on both satellite and aerials, and in the past I have learnt by my mistakes. If you want to look at the range of Rover meters try Martin Turners website http://www.martin tuner direct.co.uk or http://www.horizonhge.com. Rover have just brought out a new meter which is asmall handheld satellite finder and looks interesting. don't know what the price is though.. by the way I never leave any tools on the van at night.

Cheers all :chopper:

No it isnt a new meter, it is new to sky installers is what i meant Gilzean, they renamed it to Sky Master 2.

I wish I could expand on this, or show you pics of how these units are treated (and the old SDM2s) but fear a backlash from Sky and/or my current employer.

I dont know how much Sky paid for them Trev, but hope they get to grips with keeping a check on how they are treated, there must be a better way to finish work early.

If anyone wants a cheap but decent "satellite meter" this is what I use:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5-Color-LCD-Pro-Digital-Satellite-Finder-Meter-TV_W0QQitemZ120551708229QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ConEle_SatCableFreeview_RL?hash=item1c11711645

Now the purists will come and tell you that is NOT a satellite meter, and they are right.

What it IS, is a fully functional FTA satellite receiver with 3.5" TFT colour video display. And of course, like any satellite receiver it can display the strength and quality of any channel on screen for finding the signal and aligning the dish.

It's battery powered, solid and robust and completely portable to go up the ladder with you to align the dish. Just like the "professionals" do with a "proper" meter.

Certainly it works for me for the relatively small number of installs I do.

Oh and it's now £10 cheaper than when I bought mine over a year ago.

Anyone know any methods for resetting the Master stc? I can see from the manual that you can delete individual plans, but is there a factory reset option?
