Sounds like I could love it if it was downunder, not even sure what they look like, no doubt they were out here in some form or another. Astras here wear the Holden badge, may be totally different, any links to a picture of similar

Jim, Yes ,in Europe they were called opel! I bought it after we bought a calibra sport, which was one hell of a flying machine,i bought it new 1995 15k ! ,at the time it was known as a fast machine ,mainly sold in saloon,i can honestly say it did 133 mph .there was not much that counln`t catch me,it was realative slow to take off ,but soon as it hit 2500 rpm it went! i loved it until one day i was doing 105 mph on the m4 near bristol and a lound bang as the cam belt snapped, leaving pistons and valves on the road, any way after 3 months of legal battles i won the case with GM and got a new engine, anyway time moved on and i ran it along with 2 other cars, which was stupid so i dumped it in my mums garage in 2003,kept getting it out for a run, until 2006 when i left it alone.thats why yesterday was a really fun day, well i thought so i guess the time has come to get rid,its not worth anything, and its to old to use as a service vehicle now. i was thinking of going to the disused runway and racing it till it blow up or i crashed it.

Thanks David, I don't think it appeared here in any form that I recognise however GM here wear the Holden badge and I know the Opel platform is used for the Astra and I think Audi and something else, not sure, too confusing.

Trigger, a mate of mine used to race cars on dirt tracks and the last engine he used was the 2litre version, fitted in a fiesta converted to rear wheel drive via a Quafe diff and Capri 3litre axle(every thing else snapped half shafts like carrots)We stripped the engine when he got it,sump baffles, balanved the conrods piston etc.At the end of the season i used to race it on the Fun Day--scarry.
